Promotional Brochures: How Smart Copy Brings in Business

Effective writing brings in business. And whether you run a small business or a multinational corporation, or whether your brochure is a simple tri-fold or a 16-page booklet, the same basic principles apply.
  • It may seem obvious, but know your goal. Are you selling a product? A service? Are you promoting your company image? Are you raising money?
  • Know your audience. Really consider who you are reaching out to. Customers? Clients? Partners?
  • The front and back covers are particularly important. You want people to open the brochure and read it. An intriguing headline, a slogan, or a tagline will get them to do just that.
  • Because you don't have a lot of space, every word has to count. Be concise and conversational. Don't use technical terms or industry jargon.
  • Don't just describe your product or your service, explain how it will benefit the reader.
  • Include a simple, straightfoward call to action. Tell the reader what to do next and how to contact you.
  • Don't forget your contact information! Include your phone number, mailing address, email address, and website URL. This is surprisingly easy to overlook when you are concentrating on your message.
  • Edit and proofread! Mistakes do not inspire confidence. If your writing is sloppy, what do you expect potential clients to think of your work? Whether you Submit Your Document or just ask a friend to look it over, be sure your text is absolutely perfect.
